Oh my spanish is getting good...

Ok...I´m working on getting the videos working. I don´t know why you can´t view the folders. I can´t even view them now.

Anyway, I want to answer some questions that I´ve received and tell you a quick little story.

1) Where am I?
El Salvador. Central America, not South America.

2) How long will I be gone?
2 years.

3) Am I visiting the states during that time?
Probably, but I don´t know when.

4) What is a pupusa?
It´s a popular food here...basically a tortilla (and when I say tortilla, know that it´s not a thin tortilla like we´re used to...this thing is about 1/4" thick) with cheese, beans, goat skin, or a combination of the above inside. I usually stick to cheese only. But it´s the typical salvadoran food.

Ok....now about this weekend...
Delta Mike came to visit so we hung out in San Salvador, the capital on Friday, and then went to the beach on Saturday, then back to San Salvador. I would just like all of you to know that my spanish has progressed to a level where I can now request special orders at restaurants. :) On Sunday morning, we went to a little deli in the capital and I decided that I wanted a BLT. (I know...you´re all shocked.) So here is how the conversation went:
M: Good morning!
W: Good morning! What can I get for you?
M: Do you have provolone cheese?
WAITER: No
M: OK. Can have a sandwich with bacon, lettuce, and tomato?
W: Which sandwich from the menu? With proscuitto?
M: No. I want a sandwich with bacon, lettuce, and tomato.
W: Only bacon, lettuce, and tomato?
M: Well, and mayonaise and pepper.
W: Bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonaise, and pepper?
M: Yes.
W: On a baguette?
M: No...on a bagel.
W: You just want bacon, lettuce, and tomato on a bagel?? (and he makes a small circle with his hands to symbolize a bagel.)
M: And mayonaise and pepper. But the bagels are larger than that, right?
W: A bagel (and makes the same gesture)
M: Can I see the bagel?
WAITER AND MICHELLE WALK TO BACK OF RESTAURANT AND LOOK AT THE BAGEL. IT IS VERY VERY SMALL.
M: Ok. I changed my mind. Can I have it on a baguette?
W: Lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayonaise, and pepper on a baguette, yes?
M: Perfect.
W: What do you want on the side?
M: Pasta salad. (I thought about asking for a fruit salad, another thing not on the menu, but I figured I had put him through enough by this point.)
W: And for you, sir? (to Mike)
MIKE: I want this. (Points to something on the menu.)...with pasta salad.
W: Thank you.

So basically 10 minutes of me ordering, with samples, descriptions, etc., and 2 seconds for Mike. I was very proud of my spanish at that point. :) Aren´t you all dying to visit now? We had a really good time...I can totally translate for you (and put in special orders for you too! :)

Miss you all lots! Talk to you soon!!

I'm dying to visit! Kevin promised that he would go with me to visit next year. I just got back from Peru, and I loved it! I want to learn Spanish and live in Central and/or South America. Plus, if you can order BLT's successfully, I feel confident that the visit would be worth my time. .....Kendra
