A few characters from Seinfeld might just like it here...
Hey everyone!!! How is everything back in the states? Well, I decided that this time I want to give you a look at El Salvador from the Seinfeld perspective. So I´m going to attempt to write a little dialogue. This is going to be fun for me! I hope you enjoy! :)
IN JERRY´S EL SALVADORAN HOTEL ROOM...
GEORGE: "This place is great! Jerry, we´ve got to figure out a way to live here! I wake up in the morning whenever I want, I go anywhere I want in the country, and every woman in the area finds me to be the most attractive guy there. Me, Jerry! I go out with tons of women, who all are fine with me going out with other women, only have to spend $0.50 for our dinners."
JERRY: "Where are you going to only pay $0.50 for dinner?"
GEORGE: "Pupusas, Jerry!"
JERRY: Shakes head with a half smile.
GEORGE: "What?! They´re popular here. The women like them!"
KRAMER: Bangs on Jerry´s hotel room door as he tries to enter, but finds the door to be locked.
JERRY: Walks to the door and opens it to find Kramer on the ground. "What are you doing?!"
KRAMER: "The doors here...they´re always locked!"
JERRY: "Well, we ARE in a hotel."
KRAMER: "Yeah. They need to work on that. I´m going to start a business. It´s all set up! I talked to Morrie. We´re starting next week."
JERRY: "And just what is this great business going to do?"
KRAMER: "Pupusas, Jerry! They´re the waive of the future!"
GEORGE: Looks at Jerry and waives his hand up in the air.
JERRY: Sees George and shakes his head at Kramer and George.
KNOCK AT THE DOOR
JERRY: Walks to the door and opens it.
ELAINE: Walks in. "So are we going to get dinner, or what? I´m starving!"
GEORGE: "I´ll meet you at the Pupuseria."
ELAINE: "Why are you meeting us there? What are you doing? And why the ´Pupuseria? Those are cheap and disgusting!"
GEORGE: "They´re popular here! We need to experience the culture!"
JERRY: "George likes taking his women to the Pupuseria for dinner."
ELAINE: "Are you crazy? That´s what you´re doing on your dates?? The Pupuseria??"
GEORGE: "They´re poular here!"
KRAMER: "They´re going to be HUGE in the states! Morrie and I have a deal."
ELAINE: Looks at Jerry and shakes her head. Walks towards window and Jerry. Stops next to Kramer. "You stink! What have you been doing?"
KRAMER: I took a bucket bath in the park.
JERRY: "In the PARK?"
KRAMER: "Yeah. That´s what they do here!"
ELAINE: "Kramer, they take bucket baths using the PILAS in their homes...not the FOUNTAINS in the parks!"
KRAMER: Yeah, well the pilas get dirty after you use them for awhile."
JERRY: "What do you mean, they get ´dirty´?"
KRAMER: "You know, all the dirt gets in the water so you don´t want to use it again."
ELAINE: "Kramer! You´re supposed to TAKE the water you need, not GET into the pila!"
KRAMER: Crazy body movement. "Well. That explains a lot. Oh, and George, the girls in the park don´t want to hang with us anymore."
GEORGE: "What?? What did you do?"
KRAMER: "They´re crazy, George! After I finished my pupusa making, I headed over to the park for my bucket bath. They all wanted to talk to me on the way over, but then they got crazy after I cleaned up. I think they like dirty men, George." Winks at him.
GEORGE: "Kramer! Your bucket bath ruined it for us! How are we going to get women to go out with us now?"
KRAMER: "Don´t worry about it, George! We´ll get women in NY after we start the pupusa business!"
GEORGE: Throws himself on the bed in desperation.
ELAINE: Laughs and laughs and laughs.
JERRY: "Well, I supose it´s time for some dinner. Everyone ready?"
KRAMER: Jumps up to leave.
GEORGE: Slowly, with much effort, lifts himself off the bed and begins to trudge towards the door with his head down.
ELAINE: "Buck up, George."
ALL EXIT.
That´s all I´ve got for now...I don´t know if you will find this funny at all, but I had a great time writing it. :)
Anyway, here are some more tidbits that I´ve been thinking about...memorable moments that I´ve recently had:
1) How about Tara giving an example of our mindsets as volunteers when she said, "Today I washed my hands and I had WARM water! I was so excited. (7second break)..I washed my hands twice!"
2) Hearing Andrew during our spanish class ask, "What does ´ba´ mean? Everyone here says it." Spanish teacher responds. Andrew says, "Oh, so is this one of those words that can mean whatever you need it to mean? Because I need one of those words."
3) We ate lunch last week at our training director´s house. She cooked everything and I just have to say the food was so good it shouldn´t qualify as food. It´s like some heavenly gift that we got. Speghetti, salad (with lettuce and vegetables and everything!), garlic bread (oh my goodness) and the best cake I have ever had. I´m talking, miraculous. It was homemade chocolate cake with amaretto frosting. Oh my goodness. You don´t even know. :)
4) On day 2 of our stay here in El Salvador, we had to explain how our first night with our host families went. Fellow volunteer Richard relied, "Well, I aparently told my family I wanted to have sex with a bus." Chris, the married guy in the group said, "I kind of talked to this girl too much." This was immediately followed by his wife, Haunnah, saying, "He basically asked another girl out on a date."
5) We did a pre-session activity where we had to write down a chore that we hated and why we hated doing it. Then, we had to go around the room and say what we wrote. But we had to say, "I don´t like sex because..." and then give the reason. We basically had to replace the chore name with the word "sex". So it got to married Chris and he said, "I don´t like sex because I always screw up Haunnah´s stuff."
So, I´ve been working pretty hard on some projects. We´re hosting a youth camp on Wednesday. We were told that we needed to plan, together, a camp for kids. So 15 people get into a group and start "planning". Talk about a nightmare. 15 leaders trying to lead. So after the first session, I created a budget, agenda, sample invitation, got quotes on costs for everything, etc. so we would have something to work from. At the next meeting, I was really nervous that everyone would be like, "What are you doing?" I really just wanted us to have a draft to work from. But at the next meeting, everyone was like, "Holy crap. I´m glad you´re working in our group!" So I´m pretty excited about it now. :) And I´ve gotten invitations from a lot of people saying, "Yeah. I´m going to have camps at my site and you´re going to help me plan them." So hopefully that means I´ll get to visit people every once and a while. :)
We find out our final sites on Tuesday! So I´ll definitely have to send an email next week letting you all know where I´ll be living for the next 2 years! Next week I will be visiting the final site to find housing and meet my counterpart. I am SO excited!! :)
Well, that´s about it for now. My friend Naveen told me about Yahoo Briefcase, where I can place files for you to view, so I´m trying to download them right now. I´ll send out an email when they´re ready to view.
Miss ya all!
