Our youth camp....
So we hosted our first event with youth today. It went SOOO well! We hosted it here in my host community, San Rafael Cedros, and we had about 25 kids and 15 volunteers from various communities. We covered leadership topics - communication, conflict resolution, teamwork, future planning, self-esteem, stuff like that. I was running around like mad trying to make sure all the logistics were taken care of. And we didn´t run into any problems, so I guess we all did a good job planning. :) We had a huge sound system there so we got to play music through the entire event, and pass around the microphone from person to person. And there were, of course, lots of games for everyone! So anyway, no really crazy stories from today...the only thing that made me laugh quite a bit was when we left to get icecream for everyone, and someone said something like, "Geez, Michelle. You´re on top of things. I´m glad you´re here, because I´m the type of person that likes to just show up. You get stuff done!" And I said, "Well, I´m not always like this...usually just with events. Otherwise I like to wing it." And our training person responded, "Oh yeah, right." And I said, "No! I´m serious!" And she was like, "I know. I saw you teaching during field based training, remember?? I was being SARCASTIC!" And then the first person said, "She´s in the zone. Don´t bother her!" :) It was pretty funny. Anyway, I really just wanted to post some photos.
I hope you´re all doing well!! I miss you!!
